Story
A modern-day tale of fortune seeking in the world of West Texas oil rigs.. See writer/director Taylor Sheridan's most popular movies and TV series on IMDb, ranked by user rating.. Billy Bob Thornton and Demi Moore filmed some of their scenes in Weatherford, Texas in May of 2024.. Landman is a gripping exploration of the oil business, offering a rare and unflinching look at the challenges, ambitions, and personal sacrifices involved in the industry. It dives into the nitty-gritty of the industry, showing just how tough and complex it is, and it doesn't sugarcoat anything.
It's a bit too much at times, but I get why it's there
The realism here is undeniable, and you really feel like you're getting an inside look at something most of us take for granted.Billy Bob Thornton is, as always, phenomenal. He's so good at playing characters who are rough around the edges but deeply compelling. However, I have to agree with some of the negative reviews about his character's family drama-it's not my favorite part of the show either. Family dynamics, love them or hate them, are part of the reality the show's aiming to capture. That said, Episode 4, The Sting of Second Chances, absolutely blew me away.
Her speech was fire, and she completely flipped the situation
This episode introduced a new kind of energy with the lawyer character-she's a total powerhouse and a perfect foil to Billy's character's wife. Watching her crush the arrogant lawyers in the deposition scene was one of those "stand up and clap" moments. It was inspiring to see someone so smart and unshakable carve her place in such a male-dominated business. Watching her tell them to draft a surrender instead of a settlement was one of the most satisfying moments I've seen in a while.Another standout storyline is Billy's son, who's determined to build or run his own oil company from the ground up.
Not a play yet, but I'll figure it out" That line stuck with me
His drive and ambition are inspiring, especially when he tells his dad, "I have the dream. It captures the heart of the show-grit, ambition, and navigating the hard truths of life and business.Overall, Landman is worth watching, even if you're clueless about the oil industry like I was. It's deep, intense, and gives you a glimpse into an industry we all depend on but rarely think about. What I love most about Landman is how it captures the dual nature of chasing a dream. It's not just about success; it's about enduring the failures, the wins, and everything in between. The series reflects this beautifully, and it's a lesson for entrepreneurs, business owners, or anyone striving toward a big goal.Overall, it's a deep, thought-provoking show that's as much about the human spirit as it is about the oil industry. Highly recommend!
